DID YOU REALISE YOU WERE WEARING YOUR CLOSET?

Seeing familiar elements of Vita Domestica in a new way means unexpected bedfellows occur...new connections forged, old alliances broken......

"Certain articles, photographs, one sees or reads nowadays in the media challenge commonly held perceptions regarding the break down of our built environments into discrete components.

As an example, the photograph in the New York Times of an attorney who does most of his legal work while stuck in a traffic jam in his SUV suggests that the interior is, in fact, his office.
As he is reported to have said, in the article: "I get much more accomplished in the car because there's no one coming in bothering me".

The workshop will investigate the impact on the built world of such situations as these. The aim will be to challenge the ordering of the components that background our daily lives.

As a further example, think of the clothes we wear... What is a pocket? Is it a temporary storage unit…. a small, wearable closet?
To what extent is an overcoat an insulated house?
