In the past, most of the houses in Zhishanyan area were mostly illegally built during the Period of National Mobilization for Suppression of the Communist Rebellion, but they were accepted by the authorities anyway. As time goes on, the old houses were renewed in the process. Coupled with the fact that the area is within metro Tianmu life community, land prices have also risen gradually, with better environmental quality and complete living amenities for the residents. Many developers seize the opportunities to initiate urban renewal cases with the local residents. Due to Regulations of Bulk Reward for Urban Renewal and other policies in favor of the developers, high risers sprang up in areas surrounding Zhishanyan, causing a serious threat to its cultural landscape.
Many locals hope that they could reach their goal of renewing their homes independent of the developers, so as to enhance the quality of their neighborhood but not at the expense of their living conditions in exchange for a lower cost for renewal, turning it into profits solely for the developers.

Buildings around Zhishanyan are arranged perpendicular to the hill, forming a visual and traffic axis that echoes with the context of Yu Sheng village, increasing public spaces. From Zhishanyan moving outwards, the heights of buildings increases from low to high, giving a better viewing horizon and retaining the precious cultural landscape. Public facilities such as elderly care centers, sports centers and after-school activities rooms will be added to increase the sense of community and the relationship to Zhishanyan.
