Department Introduction
Department overview: In the face of rapid technological and social development, to accommodate the next generation, “design” goes beyond capturing form and develops the capability to integrate technology and society. We have achieved three areas that can be said to lead departments of architecture in Taiwan:
1. The Department of Architecture at Tamkang University has gathered 50 talented architectural designers, which is the highest number of workers at an architectural school in Taiwan. Once a week, there are two design classes in combination with a speech class and each student has a work table and seat, which few schools in Taiwan offer.
2. The Department of Architecture at Tamkang University has accumulated 20 years of digital teaching experience and has continued to lead the nation’s architecture departments. In terms of hardware, the department has received support from the university to establish digital factories that can manufacture wood, plastics, and metals. The department has also purchased robot arms and, for the first time in an architecture department in Taiwan, has invited leading international scholars to organize workshops.
3. The Department of Architecture at Tamkang University is located in a metropolitan area and is sensitive to discussions on various issues regarding environmental changes. It has accumulated abundant research experience and proposals for urban design and architecture. Additionally, the appointment of visiting foreign professors combined with existing full-time professors will develop connections between cities in Asia and initiate cross-city comparative studies, encouraging participation in the international community.
