Space and resources

The greatest distinguishing feature of the Department of Architecture is its attention to the students’ work space. In comparison with other architecture departments, each year of students has their own studio and each student has an exclusive space for use. This enables students to discuss designs and thoughts to the fullest.

Hardware facilities include a computer classroom with various graphics software, several spaces for critique, an alumni library, a laser cutter, a plasma cutting machine, a 3D printer, a woodworking studio, and a robotic arm.

Alumni library:

The library was completed through annual donations by the “Tamkang University Department of Architecture Alumni Association.”
Additionally, image databases (topographic maps, cadastral maps, and aerial photographs) and photographic slide and video tape databases were established for the students and teachers in the department. The library is fully organized and managed by graduate students.

Woodworking studio and metalworking workshop:

In coordination with the teaching of design courses and the manufacturing of models, a safe teaching system was established with an emphasis on the use of small machinery. Moreover, large-scale machinery was added to develop a laboratory for structural systems and spatial models.
