Student Association of the Department of Architecture at Tamkang University

Purpose for establishment and future outlook

The purpose for establishing this association was to discuss and compare professional architectural work experience, exchange academic thoughts on architecture, engage in mutual cooperation, assist the development of society, the alma mater, and the department, and establish a friendly relationship with graduates from the department. By combining the human and material resources of the architecture department in our school, we will expand the scope of alumni services. For the first time, Chin-Hsiung Lu, who has been an alumnus for 70 years, was elected as the first chairperson. After Shi-Biao He and Cheng Chung Yao, the current and fifth chairperson of the association is Shih-Hsiung Lin.

The Department of Architecture established an alumni association in 1977. However, at the beginning of its establishment, it did not have a clear legal status and operations were somewhat unstable. Nonetheless, it grew gradually under the selfless commitment of successive chairpeople. To establish the legal status of the alumni association of the Department of Architecture, an alumnus of the 13th graduating class, Chin-Hsiung Lu, established the alumni association in 2006. With the full support of several enthusiastic alumni of the Department of Architecture as well as that of Chikung Wang (an emeritus professor of this university), the registration of the association as a legal entity was finally completed. Approval was issued by the Ministry of the Interior on March 10, 2008 (registration no. 0970033211) and the official name of the association became “Alumni Association of the Department of Architecture at Tamkang University, Republic of China.”

Organization

In addition to the chairperson, the alumni association is composed of two executive directors, one executive supervisor, six directors, and two supervisors. The chairperson appoints a secretary general who is responsible for affairs of the association.

The current secretary general is an alumnus; gratitude is extended in particular to alumni volunteers who assisted in the execution of work related to the association.

All of the aforementioned staff serve in unpaid positions and are replaced by term.
