History The undergraduate was established in 1964; the graduate was established in 1981. At present, the graduate is divided into Architectural and Urban Design section, Architectural and Urban Theories section, and Architectural skill section. We integrate four teaching and research direction, including architectural theories and histories, area culture, green architecture, and computer media and new forms. We aim at the development of professional environment and cooperate teachers’ research directions. It was rebuilt from on part of old engineering building. During the summer vacation of 1993, teachers and students cooperated to design it. It was finished in the beginning of 1994. Besides, new programs and teachers’ invitation made us to turn over a new leaf.
Our graduate alumni: undergraduates are about 1600; graduates are about 290; architects are over 200.
Introduction The professional and academic development: We have two missions: one is professional development; the other is academic development. So far, concrete results has below targets: 1. Graduates’ profession, all-time instructors’ profession and participation, academic articles and activities. About graduates’ professional results: the most outstanding architects who are 30-40 years old and come back from studying abroad. 2. Full-time teachers take charge of many important engineering projects’ plan and consultancy, such as Taipei City, Tamshui of Taipei County, and I-Lan County urban plans and design. They also participate in practicable work, such as Taipei Capital heartland plan, Dihua St. plan, numerous urban projects of Tamshui, and I-Lan County development plans. Dr.呂理煌 is responsible for Kaohsiung camp of Shih Chien University’s camp plans and several main buildings. Dr. Horigome Kenji is responsible for Meng Pool, Tai-Ping Mountain, I-Lan Other projects, such as historic sites; Dr. Mi ju-kuo is a famous expert. 3.For those years, our professional researches have below main items: skill code and system, architectural and urban plans, residence research, traditional aborigines conservancy, community development, and so on. Moreover, Dr. Chou chia-peng’s daylight experiments use lighting, illumination, and energy saving to publish articles. The academic year, we have nine application projects of National Science Council. Hereafter, we will enforce to promote in order that professional and academic development can have balanced development. Course reform: We keep course reform in order to adapt seedy change. ◎ Undergraduate department reform’s emphases include below items: 1. Basic programs take “small class.” Small class courses include architectural representation, free-hand painting, site planning, and building construction and materials. We have finished all correlative course redaction. 2.
Senior establishes design course’s topic studio: urban design, computer aided
design, landscape design, structure and form, public architecture, and
construction and technology. And we
have finished teachers’ adjustment. 3.
Computerize course actively: (1)We
have invited several teachers who master computer aided design. (2)Increases
computer painting software and peripheral equipment. (3)Design
course increases computer design to be main title. ◎ Graduate reform’s emphases include below items: 1. Form four features: (1)Architecture theory and history.(2)Regional culture.(3)Green architecture.(4)Computer media and new form. At present, we have divided into groups and made course redaction according to this direction. 2.
Form “Asia-Pacific area city” research group actively. The content includes
Singapore, H.K., Shanghai, Sydney, Hawaii, and Taipei. Graduates can associate
or do short-range exchange with above cities. This direction will be the feature
of design study. 3.
One section orients design affairs. Students learn four advanced courses. Their
work can replace articles. This section will have extreme attraction for
students.
International association and promotion: Department of architecture must have international view. We invite foreign famous scholars and architects to speech and teach by using fundraising and holding jointly. Our large activities in recent years: 1. Hold summer camp in August 1997: more than one hundred high school and university students worked on week in our department. And they held exhibition in Elite Bookstore. We used fundraising to support this activity and invite four Japanese instructors. 2. October 1997: Netherlands famous architect-Herman Hertzberger came to Taiwan and commented on one painting. We invited Hertzberger to speech and discuss works with teachers and students. 3. January 1997: four China architects visited our department and held conversazione with full-time instructors. 4. March 1998: 21 instructors and students of Hawaii University came to Taiwan and designed teaching experiments with senior instructors and students jointly. Students of Hawaii University worked with us for four days. At the last day, we held international conference. Participator were more than one hundred people, including architects, instructors, and students. We put the subject on internet and kept distance intercommunication. 5. Dr. Luh jun-shyong leads our students to Europe every summer vacation. Lately, we try to discuss with French local university that if we can have design course during summer vacation. 6. We will promote students go abroad and study design course during summer vacation. At present, we are collecting information. We have regular exhibitions every year. |
